A Cherished Life…passing through

Maggie Scott was born January 31, 1933, in Madison County, Mississippi to Elder Sampson and Missionary Francis Anderson. She is the third of twelve children. Maggie is the daughter of a Pastor and was raised in a God-fearing loving home. She was taught the ways of God and to keep His statutes. To know Maggie is to know she loved the Lord, and she enjoyed going to church..

The following loved ones preceded Maggie in death: Maggie’s husband of 61 years, Obed Edward Scott; parents (Elder Sampson & Missionary Francis Anderson); six siblings: Earnestine Miggins, Sampson Anderson Jr., Author Lee Anderson, Eddie Mae Madison, Mary Francis Nichols and David Anderson; and granddaughter, Porsha Manogin

During church events, the Anderson and Scott families became friends. One day, Maggie received a note from Obed asking, “what it would be like to grow old together?” Needless to say they were soon married and the rest is history. God blessed their union with four children—Linda Scott, Obed Scott, Jr., Rodney Scott, all of Los Angeles, California and Sylvia Wells of Bakersfield, California. Maggie was a devoted wife, loving mother, and homemaker.

By profession, she was a seamstress and domestic worker. Maggie held multiple positions in the church which included Sunday School President, Prayer and Bible Band President, Choir President, and Sunshine Band Leader. She also participated in Jail and Convalescent Home Ministries. She was a fund raiser for the church, organized many plays, musicals, and special occasion programs during the holidays. Maggie was active in her local church's prayer service, and was the Secretary in the Central District Women’s Department. Whichever gifts God gave her, she did it willingly and whole heartedly.

Always ready with a fiery and inspirational testimony, Maggie many times concluded her testimony with the words, “I want to live this life in a way that is pleasing to God because I want to see my Savior’s face in peace.”

On June 28, 2023, Maggie Lou Scott, was elevated from this natural world to the spiritual world. Her work here was done. The suffering, sorrow, and troubles of this world ceased for her, and Maggie was called to rest.

Maggie leaves to cherish memories: four children, Linda Gail Scott, Obed Edward Scott, Jr., Rodney Karon Scott, all of Los Angeles, CA, and Sylvia Renee (Johnny) Wells, Bakersfield, CA; two brothers: Hosie Anderson, Samuel (Ida) Anderson; one sister: Velma Williams, all of Canton, MS; four grandchildren: Keyona Renee Scott, Shanice Rashone (Semaj) Cantley, all of Los Angeles, CA, Ashley Kayrinna Wells, Fairfield, CA, Brent Joshua Wells, Bakersfield, CA; three great grandchildren: Brandon Da’Voisiea Banks, Jr., Keyaira Renee London, Keymahni HeaVon Lee, all of Los Angeles, CA; two brother-in-laws, Samuel Scott and John (Mary) Scott, of Yazoo City, MS; two sister-in-laws, Octavia (Jack) Moss and Ora Wiley, all of Ontario, CA; godson, Jeremy Potts, Carson, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, church family and friends.
