Mark Anthony Shadino Hughes

A life of service unto the Lord…..

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

Mark Anthony Shadino Hughes was born April 26, 1953, to Douglas and Ruth Hughes.  Mark was the second born in a group of 8 siblings. Mark matriculated through the LA Unified school district to receive his formal primary education. His secondary pursuits would lead him to Santa Barbra City College and eventually to the University of California, Santa Barbara where he majored in Geology.

The confident, articulate, adventurous soul Mark became was due to the diligent efforts of his beautiful grandmother, Jessie Webb Jacobs, who took great pride in nurturing and molding her grandchildren into respectful young men. She taught them scriptures and how to play the piano. With a grandfather well renowned for his work within the Disciples of Christ church and participation in the national conventions, Rev. Arby Jacobs was proud to bring Mark and his brothers along.  The siblings would speak at various churches reciting scripture.  Mark would continue on to be extremely active in church. Having affiliations with United Christian, Antioch Christian Church and eventually joining with Abundant Life Christian Center. He was very meticulous and intentional in his doings.

Mark’s uncle, Jesse, who, to his family, was called “Uncle Blue”, loved all his nieces and nephews and supported them as best he could in their educational endeavors.  As a side job, Uncle Blue operated a janitorial company that serviced a private school in Hollywood. Mark along with his brothers would assist their uncle on weekends while earning their way through school.  Mark also worked as a construction repair laborer at Olive View Hospital in Sylmar California to repair earthquake damage.

Mark always had a love of music and added guitar to his repertoire of musical interests. He recently rededicated himself to the craft and added several keyboards and guitars to his musical collective.  Mark was extremely devoted to his 6 children and always advised them with sound biblical counseling.  Always admonishing them to pray first in every situation.  Mark’s spirit of adventure led him to take a job that “passed through” Houston, Texas.  But God had other plans. Mark met a Texas girl and eventually relocated in 1995. That chance meeting led to a marriage that has lasted almost 27 years. To that union another son, whom he refers to as the last button on Jacob’s coat (a phrase coined by his father) was born.  He is the founder and CEO of Hues by Hughes (painting and restoration. He has been an active and dedicated member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church for 26 years.

Mark  is preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Howard Hughes and Ruth Louise Jacobs Hughes; brothers, Daniel Jacobs and Jesse Carlton; and granddaughter, Amari. He leaves to forever cherish his memory wife Karen; (6) children, Nico, Deborah (Ricardo), Marc (Karen), Devin (Chanel), Trudie (Rajai), Emanuel; (6) siblings Douglas, Donald, Belinda, Phillip (Benita), Samuel (Lorna), Zerline (Reuben); (16) grandchildren: Christopher (Lauren), Tyler, Julia, Aunja (Brandon), Macie, Carmen, Sharee, Amaya, Cory, Jamaul, Madisen, Seanquez, Juwan (Gabrielle), Marcus, Myles, Matthew; (4) great-grandchildren Belle, Shamar, Julian, Joell; (1) uncle Ronald; (2) aunts Janie and Jeannette; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
